Documents to submit:

Scholarship Application Form

Download the PDF attachment above and submit this with your scholarship package.

Your story (a personal essay of 1000 words maximum or a video no more than 7 minutes)

Most importantly, we want to know who YOU are. Tell us about the obstacles you have faced in your pursuit of education and what this scholarship will mean to you. You have the freedom to tell us anything that you feel is relevant - so be honest and real. Everyone has a story. No personal essays or videos will be shared outside of the scholarship review committee.

Proof of enrolment in a post-secondary program

Eligible post-secondary programs include:

- Any public or private college or university program leading to a certificate, associates degree, trades certification, diploma, or bachelor degree

- Online programs may be eligible, provided they will lead to one of these credentials in either Canada or the United States and the student is not temporarily living outside of Canada

*If you are not sure whether your program is eligible, please email us. As long as the program leads to a marketable credential, we are willing to consider it. After all, that's the point of this scholarship - no barriers, right?

Proof of residence in Canada

You must reside in Canada and attend a Canadian institution. If you are residing in Canada but obtaining your education online at a US institution, please email us to ensure that we can accommodate this. The scholarship cheque will be mailed directly to your school to be applied to your tuition costs.

Reference letters (2 required)

We are asking applicants to provide at least one professional or academic reference letter (i.e., an employer, professor, instructor, volunteer supervisor, etc.). Your second letter can be a professional/academic or a personal reference (provided that it is not written by a family member). A personal reference can speak to your character, informal community involvement, and other things about you that will help us understand who you are and what you are capable of achieving.

Budget form

Please complete the attached budget form so that we can get a better understanding of your financial situation. While financial need in its formal sense (expenses calculated to be greater than resources) is not a requirement, we do consider this. There is no maximum income threshold because everyone's expenses are different - someone making $75,000 per year could have $30,000 in student debt, a car loan, and two kids to care for while someone else with the same income may have no debt and no children. We think everyone deserves to have a little cushion for emergencies, but we will prioritize applicants whose financial situations put them at risk of being unable to pay for school in addition to their necessary expenses. Applicants may be asked for proof of financial need if this was factored into a decision between two or more final candidates.

Unofficial transcript or record of course progress

If a transcript of grades is available, please provide an unofficial copy of the most recent version. If you do not receive letter or percentage grades, please submit something that demonstrates your progress in the program.

OPTIONAL supporting documentation (up to 3)

We do not require formal volunteer experience, but we do encourage you to show us how you connect with your community and support those around you. You have the option to include up to 3 additional supporting documents - this could come in many forms including but not limited to:

- News articles, blogs/vlogs, or social media links that demonstrate your involvement in community initiatives, group activities, or other achievements

- An up-to-date resume

- Additional reference letters

OPTIONAL biography (50-75 words) and photo

If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, we would like to share your photo and a brief biography (your first name, school/program of study, and future aspirations).
